More dragons could be coming!

An animated series of Game of Thrones is reportedly in the very early development stages at HBO Max.

The news first broken by The Hollywood Reporter cites multiple sources claiming the animated series “is part of a larger strategy to expand the world of creator George R.R. Martin's fantasy drama.”

According to the report, the premium cable network has been meeting with writers for the adult-themed fantasy series based on the work of George R.R. Martin. If the animated series pushes through, it will be similar in tone to HBO’s original Game of Thrones flagship series.

However, at this point, no deals have been made and nothing is set in stone for the potential animated series. No details are available about what the focus of the potential series would be and no writers or actors are currently attached to the project.

Representatives for HBO Max have neither confirmed nor denied the news.

There are a couple more solid Game of Thrones spinoffs currently in the works. We've already gotten a first look and the title treatment of HBO's live-action prequel series House of the Dragon, which is slated to debut in 2022. The show starring Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, and Matt Smith will document the buildup to the Targaryen civil war in Westeros that is known as the Dance of Dragons.

There’s also Tales of Dunk and Egg, a live-action series adaptation based on fantasy novellas by George R.R. Martin which follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), 90 years prior to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire.

Both live-action confirmed projects are prequels set before the events of HBO's Game of Thrones series
