The emergence of the pandemic caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 has posed an existential threat to all types of businesses across the globe. Some were forced to close shop due to the lingering effects of the crisis while others opted to adapt to the new normal. And now, the well-loved branch of Comic Odyssey will be closing its doors to its loyal patrons as it transitions to the online world amid the pandemic.

After eight years, Comic Odyssey announced that its branch in Bonifacio Global City will be ceasing its operations next month in order to “transform” parts of their business “into a stronger online model.”

"Our Comic Odyssey Fort branch located on the 4th floor inside Fully Booked will be closing its doors on Sunday, August 2, as we transform parts of our business into a stronger online model," it said.

The local comic retail store said that it decided to utilize its online delivery service as the crisis caused by the dreaded virus changed traditional retail and customers’ buying habits.

“The pandemic has completely changed the face of traditional retail. Customer buying habits have drastically changed. To adapt, we have decided to close our store located inside Fully Booked Fort and focus our efforts into improving our online and delivery services, which have seen an incredible surge. Many of you have already been using our online services these past few months and we have received fantastic feedback,” it said.

As a parting gift, Comic Odyssey said that all of its back-issues in their bins will be 50% off until August 2.

The BGC branch of Comic Odyssey is known for celebrating and conducting the international ‘Free Comic Book Day’ every year since its establishment in 2012. Apart from various signing events featuring renowned comic book personalities, the store also held various events like Halloween Comic Fest, Batman Day, as well as Christmas parties.
