Which smartwatch is fit for you: Apple Watch Series 8 vs. Apple Watch SE vs. Apple Watch Ultra

Apple launched not one, but three new smartwatches during its Far Out event on Sept. 7, with each catering to different types of users.

Now for those looking to upgrade their current wrist candy, or finally get on their own smartwatch, you are spoilt for choice. Aside from the flagship Apple Watch Series 8, a new budget Watch SE 2022 and rugged Watch Ultra was unveiled. So which one of these should you get?

To make your choice, you must consider your budget, use case, and lifestyle. The Apple Watch is, after all, a fitness watch, so if you're just going to use it for notifications on your wrist, best go with the cheapest option.

First, the similarities. All three watches are equipped with advanced safety features in case of emergencies. The devices can detect if you had a hard fall and will sound off an alert. You can choose to contact emergency services or tell the watch you're okay by pressing the digital crown.

A helpful new feature added is crash detection, which works similarly to the feature mentioned above, but for car accidents. The watch will automatically call for emergency services if the user doesn't respond within 10 seconds.

All three models also come with key health features such as monitoring heart rate, cardio fitness, and menstrual cycles. The Series 8 and the Ultra, however, have additional features that aren't found in the SE.

Temperature sensing

Both the Series 8 and the Ultra come with features found in previous Watch Series like a blood oxygen oximeter, ECG, and menstrual cycle tracking. In addition, the new watches come with a temperature sensor, useful for women who want to track their cycle more intuitively.

The temperature sensor, which tracks your body while you sleep, can provide users with an estimate of when they most likely ovulated. Users also get notifications on irregular or prolonged periods right on their wrists.

While the Series 8 proves to be an ideal device for women, the Ultra is created for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. This model is more durable than its siblings as it's made from aerospace-grade titanium. It can withstand edge impact and can resist corrosion.

In addition, the Ultra is the brightest of the three, outputting 2,000 nits of brightness so users will be able to see the display clearly even while they're under the sun.
