After several hiccups, it appears that the cinematic adaptation of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series starring Spider-Man actor Tom Holland is officially a go.

In an Instagram post, Holland teased fans with a photo of an actor’s chair emblazoned with the name of his character and a pretty self-explanatory caption “Day one #Uncharted”. The 24-year-old actor, most notably known as the web-slinger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to portray a young version of Uncharted’s main protagonist Nathan Drake.

However, Holland’s update on the fate of the film is contrary to what fans are hoping after a representative of Sony Pictures Entertainment clarified to Games Radar that filming has not really started just yet. But the good news is, the company rep said that preparations are well underway, adding that the team is “hoping to start [shooting] soon.”

The movie adaptation of the video game franchise has suffered a series of setbacks since its announcement in 2009 (Yes, it’s been 11 years… and counting). The film lost a total of six directors due to various reasons but found a saving grace with Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Zombieland), who agreed to helm the film.

Actors Antonio Banderas and Mark Wahlberg will join Holland in Sony’s adaptation of Uncharted, which is expected to debut on July 16, 2021.
