Besides being Venom’s titular star, Tom Hardy is getting his first “story by” credit for the upcoming sequel, Venom: Let there be Carnage.

The Sony box office hit’s sequel is set to return to the big screen in September this year, with motion caption legend from The Lord of The Rings and King Kong, Andy Serkis as the director, and screenplay by Kelly Marcel, who also shares Hardy’s “story by” credits.

“He’s married to Venom,” Marcel told Empire in an exclusive interview. “He loves this character. He’s very involved in what he thinks should happen.”

Although Tom Hardy didn’t put on his writing socks to pump out a screenplay, he and Marcel spent months going back and forth through the story. Using FaceTime, both creatives exchanged ideas, seeing what would work, what didn’t, and with those ideas taken into consideration, Marcel managed to write a whole script for three months.

“This is new for him, to get credit,” Marcel further emphasized. Stating that Hardy is 100 percent committed to his job, to his character, and everything he does.

In Venom, Eddie Brock, a journalist, is taken over by an alien parasite. He then struggles to fight back the new symbiotic relationship he has with the human-eating species, while trying to keep himself intact.

As for the sequel, the plot is still pretty vague but it seems pretty clear that Eddie Brock is trying to go back to his previous life as a journalist while hosting Venom in his body. In an attempt to reignite his career, Brock interviews the serial killer Cletus Kasady who is currently hosting Carnage in his body.

Woody Harrelson portrays Cletus Kasady, while Naomie Harries is set to play his love interest, Frances Barrison aka Shriek. Michelle Williams is set to reprise her role as Anne Weying along with Reid Scott as Dan Lewis.
