The biggest announcements from Netflix’s Geeked Week 2022

Netflix has dedicated an entire week to grand reveals and announcements about all their new series and film projects related to sci-fi, horror, fantasy, comic books, animation, and video games.

Geeked Week 2022, the five-day virtual fan event celebrating Netflix’s geeky genre began Monday, June 6 and will run until Friday, June 10.

This year’s event included news, sneak peeks, trailers, cast panels and updates from over 60 Netflix shows and movies including Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, All of Us are Dead, Stranger Things, Alice in Borderland, Manifest and loads more.

'The Sandman' unveils new trailer and August 5 premiere

We finally got a proper look at the live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s beloved award-winning DC comic series The Sandman. Tom Sturridge stars as the Master of Dreams, giving shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. The Sandman series, developed and executive produced by Gaiman, will hit Netflix on August 5th.

'All of Us are Dead' renewed for Season 2

Zombie fans, rejoice! The hit zombie teen series All of Us are Dead has officially been renewed for a second season.

No details have been given yet in terms of the storyline, but the four lead actors of the apocalyptic teen series, including Lee Cheong-san, portrayed by Yoon Chan-young, whose fate was undetermined after the cliffhanger last episode, appeared in a brief teaser video, which means we could see more half-zombies in the future.

'Stranger Things' drops sneak peek of Season 4, Vol. 2

To celebrate the hit sci-fi series’ Stranger Things recent return, the streamer dedicated a whole day to all news related to the Upside Down. The cast and creatives shared the juiciest behind-the-scenes stories from the making of Stranger Things 4, Vol. 1 and showed a brief glimpse on what to expect in Vol. 2, set to arrive on July 1st.

Tim Burton’s 'Wednesday' gets a trailer

The Addams Family spin-off Wednesday from Tim Burton dropped a new trailer, showing Jenna Ortega in full character in the title role, complete with braids and woeful demeanor. The dark and twisted new series is listed as “coming soon.”

Manifest gets a sneak peek of Season 4

Netflix debuted a sneak peek of the fourth and final season of Manifest, the hit supernatural drama series about disappearing planes. The series, which originally aired on NBC starting in 2018 was canceled after three seasons, before being picked up by Netflix, where it quickly topped the viewing charts. The streamer revealed that the last season will be divided into two parts consisting of 10 episodes each. No premiere date has been revealed.

'Alice in Borderland' gets first-look photos for season 2

The next stage of the game has begun. Netflix has released the first stills from the second season of the hit Japanese survival thriller drama Alice in Borderland based on the manga of the same name by Haro Aso. The three photos show two of our heroes, Ryohei Arisu and Yuzuha Usagi back in action and looking terrified, just like in the previous season. Not a lot of details were revealed about the upcoming season, though it is expected to come out on December 2022.

New 'One Piece' teaser shows off set

A new teaser for Netflix’s take on the Japanese manga series One Piece shows off some of the art and set design behind the upcoming live-action adaptation. Actor Iñaki Godoy and showrunners Steven Maeda and Matt Owens introduce a behind-the-scenes glimpse into bringing the world of One Piece to life in the Set Sneak Peek.

Guillermo del Toro’s horror anthology ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ gets teaser

Netflix debuted a brief teaser for the horror anthology from famed gothic director Guillermo del Toro of Pan’s Labyrinth and El Orfanato fame. Del Toro serves as showrunner and executive producer, with notable writers and directors from movies like Mandy, The Empty Man, and Splice behind the 8 chilling episodes.

Cast members in the upcoming series include The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln, Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, Shadow & Bone’s Ben Barnes, and Crispin Glover to name a few. There’s no exact release date, but the series is expected to debut this year.

Resident Evil live-action series unleashes undead dogs

Fans of the Resident Evil horror franchise and video games might want to check out the latest trailer for Netflix’s upcoming live-action series. The newest trailer offers a first look at the Umbrella Corporation’s terrifying undead dogs, a staple in the games and movies. Resident Evil and the T-virus is set to arrive at Netflix on July 14th.

'The Umbrella Academy' season 3 arrives on June 22

Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy will be arriving soon on Netflix this June 22. The streamer dropped a brief new clip from the show, showing off the swanky, new home of the Hargreeves family - The Hotel Obsidian. 

'Shadow & Bone' season 2 wraps filming

Production has officially wrapped on the second season of Shadow & Bone, the fantasy series based on the Grishaverse novels. There’s no trailer or premiere date yet, but the main series stars, including Ben Barnes, who plays The Darkling and Jessie Mei Li who plays Alina Starkov, shared a special recorded message to share the production news.

Junji Ito animated series announced

A new animated series from iconic horror manga creator Junii Ito (Gyo and Uzumaki) is in development. 

The streamer shared an interview with Ito introducing his upcoming Netflix series, Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre. The author revealed some of his works getting the anime treatment and gave a first look sneak peek at some of the character designs. The anime series is coming to Netflix in 2023.

'The Dragon Prince' returns for season 4

Fans of the animated series The Dragon Prince are finally getting a new season three years after the third season wrapped up back in 2019. The new trailer titled The Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos is described as “the next phase of the saga” for the fantasy story. No release date was revealed in the trailer.
