WATCH: Zendaya dances to Frank Sinatra in 'Euphoria' Season 2 trailer

After a long hiatus, Euphoria is finally returning with its second season on Jan. 9, 2022.

Emmy-winning star Zendaya made the announcement on Nov. 23, sharing a glimpse of the upcoming season on Twitter.

The trailer begins with Zendaya's Rue vibing to Frank Sinatra's Call Me Irresponsible while in bed. But as one who tunes in to the show knows, Euphoria is everything but sunshine and roses.

“When you’re younger, everything feels so permanent. But as you get older, you begin to realize nothing is and everyone you love could drift away,” she says in the trailer.

The season 1 finale left on a dark note—Rue relapsed after she and Jules (Hunter Schafer) had a falling out, Nate (Jacob Elordi) fought with his dad and broke off a toxic relationship with Maddy (Lexi Howard), and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) had an abortion. Only Barbie Ferreira's Kat got a happy ending—she got a romantic moment with Ethan set to a tune from BTS' Jungkook.

Euphoria season 2 was originally set to begin filming in March 2020 but was halted due to the pandemic. In the meantime, show creator Sam Levinson worked on two standalone episodes on Zendaya and Schaffer's characters, which will be the bridge between the show's first and second seasons.

Jules and Rue

'Hard' and 'devastating'

The Emmy award-winning actress has said before that season 2 will be "devastating."

"The show was intense. And it's very personal to, not only ourselves and all the people who work on it, but also, to other people who have been able to relate so deeply to the characters or see their experiences being reflected through Rue," Zendaya told Teen Vogue in July.

Her character, Rue, is a recovering 17-year-old drug addict struggling to find her place in the world. She befriends and becomes emotionally dependent on Jules.

"It's gonna be hard and it's gonna be devastating sometimes, but I think Rue really deserves all of that care when it comes to her character, because I think she represents a lot for so many people. It’s not going to be a fun watch, I don't think," she added.

Euphoria is available to stream on HBO Go.
