'The Witcher' halts production anew after multiple positive cases of COVID-19

Netflix has suspended the production of The Witcher in the U.K. after some crewmembers reportedly contracted the coronavirus disease 2019.

As per Deadline, Netflix will conduct an isolated round of testing for everyone involved in the show after four people tested positive for COVID-19. It said that the lead cast are not among those who contracted the virus while those who tested positive have been isolated. It's still unclear when the production will resume. However, the report bared that filming at Arborfield Studios in west of London may continue once Netflix is “confident that the set is fully safe.”

Filming of the second season of The Witcher was also put on hold in March after actor Kristofer Hivju, who plays Nivellen in the Polish-American fantasy drama, revealed that he had tested positive for the dreaded virus. The suspension lasted until mid-August due to the COVID-19 protocols in U.K.

The series adaptation of The Witcher follows the story of Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.

Netflix previously announced that the massively popular fantasy show is also getting a spinoff series titled The Witcher: Blood Origin. The six-part live-action series will take place 1200 years before the time of Geralt and will explore the events that led to the ‘conjunction of spheres’, a period where “worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be.”
