From UFC to PFC: Pillow fighting is now an actual combat sport

Pillow fighting might have started as child's play, but it's now moving onto the combat sport arena with the Pillow Fight Championship (PFC).

Introduced in September 2021, PFC is similar to the three-round fighting set-up and stage of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) with the exception of pillows being used instead of fists.

Experienced MMA competitors and boxers go head-to-head in the pillow match that lasts about 10 minutes.

With its first live, pay-per-view event happening in Florida on January 2022, PFC is already hyping up its fans on social media with training teasers and full fight coverages.

"It's serious. It's hardcore swinging with specialized pillows," said PFC head Steve Williams. "The only difference between our fights and MMA fights is that nobody gets hurt."

"The fighters don't like to get hurt, and there's a lot of people who don't want to see the blood. They want to see good competition, they just don't want to see the violence."

Though the concept might sound far-fetch, Williams hopes that it will gain mainstream appeal brought by nostalgia.

"Think about how they mixed country music with rap music and brought these diverse audiences together," he added. "That's what we're doing, and we hope it brings in a different kind of viewer."

You can catch PFC's pillow-fighting battles on YouTube.
