Supernatural actor Jensen Ackles will be suiting up for the third season of Amazon Prime’s graphic novel adaptation of The Boys.

Ackles made the announcement on his Instagram account with a video of himself leafing through a copy of The Boys. “I keep wondering what I’ll do….when @cw_supernatural finally ends this year. Then it hit me,” Ackles wrote.

The actor will portray the character of the “original Superhero” known as Soldier Boy, who became the first super celebrity after fighting in World War II.

In a statement, The Boys and Supernatural showrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke said: "When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream - to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment.”

“I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he'll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can't wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys."

The Boys’ third season was announced during the SDCC panel last July ahead of the show’s season 2 premiere on September 4. The series is based on the best-selling graphic novel by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertzon.
