Weekend Watchlist: 'Snowpiercer,' 'Fate: The Winx Saga' and more

And just like that, we've made it to the end of the first month of the year. It's Friday and once again, we bring to you a fresh serving of recommendations on our weekend watchlist. 

The post-apocalyptic dystopian TV drama Snowpiercer, based on the 2013 South Korean–Czech film of the same name directed by Bong Joon-ho is back for a second season. There's also a new teen drama series about a bunch of modern-day fairies in the same vein as The Vampire Diaries inspired by Nickelodeon's animated series Winx Club, as well as a lighthearted Goonies-inspired treasure hunting flick called Finding Ohana

This latest roundup includes some of the top trending shows this week, the lastest K-dramas, as well as some newly released foreign and local films you might want to check out.

Snowpiercer (Season 2)

Synopsis: Earth has frozen over and the last surviving humans live on a giant train circling the globe, struggling to coexist amid the delicate balance onboard.

Fate: The Winx Saga

Synopsis: Determined to master their enchating powers, a group of teens navigate rivalry, romance and supernatural studies as Alfea, a magical boarding school. 

Finding Ohana

Synopsis: In O'ahu for the summer, two siblings from Brooklyn connect with their Hawaiian heritage—and their family—on a daring quest for long-lost treasure. 

RED

Synopsis: Former CIA operative Frank Moses is basking in normality. But he's forced to return to old habits when an assasin puts a target on his back.

Penguin Bloom

Synopsis: As a mom copes with the aftermath of a harrowing accident, she finds inspiration from an injured magpie taken in by her family. Based on a true story.

The Dig

Synopsis: On the eve of World War II, a British widow hires a self-taught archaeologist to dig up mysterious formations on her land, leading to a staggering find. 

Lovestruck in the City


Synopsis: Heart stolen by a free-spirited woman after a beachside romance, a passionate architech sets out to reunite with her on the streets of Seoul. 

Run On

Synopsis: Run On tells the love story of Ki Seon-gyeom, a former sprinter who is working to become a sports agent on JTBC, and Oh Mi-joo, a subtitle translator.

Our Mighty Yaya

Synopsis: To send her son to college, a benevolent mother takes a job as a caregiver and must contend with an affluent family who isn't quite as welcoming. 

Woke Up Like This

Synopsis: On the brink of big breaks, an athlete and a model hit a roadblock on their paths to success when they inexplicably wind up in each other's bodies.
