Robocop returns for new video game, drops teaser trailer

Everyone’s favorite crime fighting, slightly violent—and a penchant for monotonous one-liners—robot is back! Not for a brand new film though, but for a video game, Robocop: Rogue City, slated for a 2023 release.

Good cop turned robot, Alex Murphy will finally have a brand new video game that will be developed by Teyon, who also handled Terminator: Resistance back in January 2020.

Publisher Nacon announced the new project during their July 6 showcase, surprising the franchise’s fans and sparking interest among gamers. The official reveal trailer immediately starts with a woman’s voice announcing that “crime has escalated to new heights,” followed by a drone-shot view of what will surely be a crime-infested city of Detroit. The narrator continues on, asking “Who, or what, will send these crooks on the run and restore peace to all citizens once and for all?" as skyscrapers sprout from below.

With 49 seconds of footage, without any gameplay and barely two seconds screen time for Robocop himself, the reveal trailer felt more like a teaser trailer. Nevertheless, it’s been six years since the franchise released a project this big, like the 2014 Robocop remake film, and almost 20 years since the last video game dropped. Besides, Robocop: Rogue City will not be released until 2023, hopefully, there are no setbacks during its production.

The story is highly likely to follow the original trilogy films which was released way back in 1987, almost 35 years ago.

The console availability of the game is yet to be announced, however, chances are it will be on the new generation of consoles and of course, PC.
