EA announces Spotlight Series ahead of main showcase

By Arthur Apostol Published Jul 02, 2021 2:55 pm

EA recently revealed the EA Play Live Spotlight Series, a month-long four part event which will focus on the publisher’s upcoming games and will dive deeper into the developers of these games.

“An easy way to think about Spotlights are they’re like panels, where the main show is a collection of our games with new things to reveal,” according to EA’s blog post.

Each “Spotlight” will have its own theme where audiences will learn more about EA’s games that will be released or updated in the future.

“These talented developers will give you insights into what they’re making and how they’re doing it, and they may even drop some new news while they’re at it,” the post said.

The panels are individually titled as The Future of First-Person Shooters, EA <3s Independent Studios, Madden NFL 22 All-Access: Scouting - How the Community is Shaping Madden NFL 22, and More EA SPORTS!

The Future of First-Person Shooters on July 9, 1:00 a.m.

This FPS panel will kick off the event with a showcase of the newly unveiled Battlefield 2042 and Apex Legends with DICE’s general manager Oskar Gabrielson and DICE LA’s general manager Christian Grass.

Respawn’s Founder and Group GM Vince Zampella and Apex Legends game director Chad Grenier will also be with them.

EA <3s Independent Studios on July 14, 1:00 a.m.

The festivities will continue with a panel hosted by Todd Martens of the Los Angeles Times where Josef Fares of Hazelight (It Takes Two), Olov Redmalm of Zoink (Lost in Random), Melissa Phillips and Abubakar Salim of newcomers Silver Rain Games, and Guha Bala of Velan (Knockout City) will be sharing their experiences and insights as indie game developers.

Madden NFL 22 All-Access: Scouting - How the Community is Shaping Madden NFL 22 on July 20, 7:00 a m.

Play-by-play announcer for the Madden Championship Series Nick Mizesko will be hosting this deep dive into the development process of EA SPORTS™ Madden NFL 22 and how the Madden Design Council impacted the different functions and game modes of the newest installment in the Madden series, together with EA SPORTS’ Seann Graddy, Tom Lischke, and Andre Weingarten.

More EA SPORTS! on July 22, 1:00 a.m.

EA only said “Look, we’re not allowed to tell you much about this one yet, sorry. But we can say this Spotlight will highlight an extremely cool new addition to an extremely popular and long-running EA SPORTS franchise. We may have said too much already. Just keep your calendar free, OK?”

All of this leads to the main EA Play Live on July 23 at 1:00 a.m. which will start with a short pre-show that will serve as a recap before the main show. The main showcase will focus on games that are coming out soon rather than in future.
