Kathryn Bernardo's bear-y red Christmas tree is getting us hyped for the holidays

Actress Kathryn Bernardo has put up her Christmas tree, and it’s the ultimate holiday inspo!

With the help of renowned events stylist Gideon Hermosa, the Kapamilya star transformed their family’s seven-year-old tree into an elegant winter feast. It features bright red ornaments of varied shapes and sizes, plus Kathryn’s favorite winter animal—polar bears.

And while it seems that their setup this year costs a fortune, Kathryn revealed in her YouTube vlog on November 16 that much of it was, in fact, recycled from last year.

In 2019, Gideon turned the Bernardos’ Christmas tree into a winter wonderland by coloring the tree ivory and dressing it up with plush polar bears. Both of which, they are also using this year, as the actress tapped the stylist to do the project the second time around.

“Actually second time palang ‘to ni Gids [to decorate]. Last year was the first time and super love ko ‘yun kasi I love bears, and sabi ko kay Gids, I wanted something different kasi apparently, never kami nag-red. Gusto ko parating blue kasi gusto ko ‘yung parating malamig or kung hindi naman kami mag-Christmas tree, nasa bang bansa kami,” Kathryn said.

Gideon added, “Ang goal kasi natin is to use the same materials last year… so most of the items from last year, ginamit pa rin natin. Ang napagusapan nga natin is to change lang the color, which you requested is color red this year.”

Aside from reusing the recolored tree and stuffed bears, Gideon jazzed up Kahtryn’s big white Christmas balls with red tapes to make it sync with the tree’s merry red theme. Other ornaments were repainted red as well.

Adding to the tree’s chic vibe are the white Dahlia flowers that, according to Gideon, were specially made by the townspeople of Tarlac.

He explained, “Before pandemic sa town namin in Tarlac, usually nagpapadala ako ng materials doon for them to have something. Kasi ‘di ba usually sa province wala silang ibang pinagkakaabalahan, pagkakakitaan. So one of my projects, itong mga Dahlia na ito, doon fino-fold, tapos dinidikit [nila] isa-isa.

To make the layout stylish yet at the same time, sophisticated, Gideon only used two colors for the whole arrangement.

“As much as possible, use two main colors lang if you want your Christmas tree na mas elegant and classic,” he noted. “Though I have nothing against ‘yung mga colorful na Christmas tree. They are fun, masaya siya tingnan, pero if you want something classic and elegant, choose at least two main colors lang.”

Likewise, he made sure to use “the power of grouping.”

But having a Christmas tree that is sturdy and full (like Kathryn’s) is still the primary key to coming up with such grand setup, according to Gideon.

“Actually good na mag-invest sa Christmas tree mismo kasi maraming Christmas tree na sobrang payat tingnan at ang ninipis ng mga bakal. Kasi like ‘yung sa mga ibang ginawan kong bahay, ten years na sa kanila [‘yung tree]. Chinechange lang namin ‘yung color, dinadagdagan lang ng layer, pero same pa rin ‘yung base niya. So importante mag-invest sa magandang Christmas tree lalo na kung gusto mo siya gamitin every year. And of course, mga ornaments na kumbaga bagay siya every year—‘yung classic lang,” Gideon said.
