It’s almost time to return to the games. The second season of Alice in Borderland has finally wrapped filming.

Netflix announced Tuesday (March 29) that the popular Japanese series that made the top 10 in over 70 countries is set to return this holiday season.

Alice in Borderland: Season 2 starring Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya, and directed by Shinsuke Sato, will be available on the streaming platform this December 2022. Netflix shared a new cast announcement video featuring the stars talking about their experience while filming on the set.

The science fiction thriller drama television series based on the manga of the same name by Haro Aso, caused a frenzy in Japan and around the world when it was first released in December 2020 and rose to popularity again on the streamer following the release of South Korean survival series Squid Game.

Alice in Borderland follows the story of Arisu and Usagi, who have lost meaning in life, as they risk their lives in the hope of returning to their original world by making it through a variety of "games" that play to different character traits, such as intelligence, strength, and teamwork.

According to Netflix’s synopsis:

Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) are chasing the mystery of "Borderland" in order to return to their real world. They meet their friends, enemies, and the mastermind behind the  "game" at a place that seems to be the key to unlocking the mystery. Arisu and his friends collect all the numbered playing cards they can get for each "game" they win. The only cards that remain are  Jack, Queen, and King. Arisu and his friends challenge the "game", which is more difficult and larger in scale than the previous game. When all the cards are collected, will they be able to return to their real world?

The 10 cast members who won "games" at the end of Season 1 who will be returning for the second season have been confirmed and production on season 2 has officially wrapped in a promotional video.

The production wrap clip includes messages from returning cast members Kento Yamazaki, Tao Tsuchiya, Nijiro Murakami, Ayaka Miyoshi, Dori Sakurada, Aya Asahina, Sho Aoyagi, and Riisa Naka—all excited to return.

Yamazaki says, "We had these really large-scale scenes everyday and the world of the show is bigger than ever. I enjoyed filming the show very much and look forward to the final production", said Tsuchiya, "Each shot has big set pieces, like explosions. I was able to experience it like my character Usagi, in those realistic scenes. Everyday was such a valuable experience for me. I felt it was a really enjoyable time.”

Alice in Borderland: Season 2 will debut on Netflix this December 2022.
