Calling all anime fans and kids of the ’90s!

In case you missed it, the newest Dragon Ball movie is set to be released in cinemas worldwide this Summer 2022, including in the Philippines.

Following its teaser last year, Crunchyroll and Toei Animation recently announced the worldwide theatrical release of Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO.

The movie will be released across the globe in both subtitled and dubbed formats in North America, Latin America, Europe, Australia/New Zealand, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia (excluding Japan).

The latest entry in the anime franchise will be released later this summer after it premieres in Japan on June 11.

The 3DCG anime superhero movie follows the anime series and the Dragon Ball Super: Broly film which was released back in 2018 and went on to gross over $115 million worldwide.

Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO is Crunchyroll’s first globally-distributed cinematic release. Sony Pictures Animation is distributing the new film globally, while the company's local counterpart, Columbia Pictures Philippines, will distribute it in the country.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Toei Animation to bring fans the latest chapter of Dragon Ball Super to the legion of super fans eager to continue the adventure and to grow the anime audiences who are discovering it for the first time,” said Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini.

The latest Dragon Ball movie sees individuals carrying the spirit of the Red Ribbon Army, which had been destroyed by Son Goku, creating Gamma Androids that call themselves "super heroes." But as they attack Piccolo and Gohan, it becomes a cause for the real Super Hero to rise.

Original Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama is involved in the film's production through the story, screenplay, and character design while Tetsuro Kodama will be directing.

The Dragon Ball Japanese manga has sold over 260 million copies worldwide since 1984 and has expanded into other forms of media like television animation, movies, games, and merchandise.
