Michael V. weighs in on ‘Voltes V: Legacy’ controversy: ‘Yung iba kasi, naggagaling-galingan’

Comedian Michael V. has a simple message for the bashers of the upcoming GMA-7 series Voltes V: Legacy: “Naka, huwag ako.”

In a YouTube video posted on his Bitoy Story channel on Friday, Feb. 19, Michael V. gave his two cents about the local remake of the popular ‘70s series. Voltes V: Legacy  has been garnering a lot of attention lately after its head writer Suzette Doctolero and veteran cartoonist Pol Medina Jr. exchanged barbs about the show, with Medina poking fun at the upcoming adaptation and Doctolero saying the cartoonist’s comments are “offensive” and belittles the soap opera genre.

“Doon sa mga nakapanood ng teaser ng Voltes V: Legacy, huwag na kayo magpanggap na hindi kayo na-impress at hindi kayo na-excite. Yung iba kasi naggagaling-galingan, kung anu-ano ang sinasabi. 'Dapat ganito, dapat ganun,” Michael V. said.

The comedian—who stars in and writes for comedy shows on GMA-7, where the series will air—said he understands that people have high expectations of the show. He, too, has high expectations of Voltes V: Legacy.

“Pero kampante naman ako, kasi siyempre kilala ko naman si Direk Mark Reyes. Geek talaga 'yan e, tsaka matagal na niyang pangarap ‘yan,” he said.

Michael V. added: “I'm sure grabe ang pressure sa buong production.”

Therefore, his advice for everyone involved in the high-profile, much-awaited show: “Really enjoy this opportunity.”

He further said, “Given na 'yung ka-career-in e. Pero pag 'di ka nag-enjoy, dun magsi-simula 'yung problema. And sana nga, pagsama-samahin talaga ng GMA 'yung mga totoong fans ni Voltes V to make sure that this project succeeds.”

“Maraming bashers pero feeling ko mas maraming nagdarasal na maging successful itong project na 'to.

“Honestly nung nakita ko 'yung cast photos in their outfits, kahit alam ko na hindi pa 'yun 'yung actual outfits nila and let's say na kahit hindi ko kakilala kunyari 'yung mga artista, wala ako pakialam, panonoorin ko pa rin siya, kasi fan talaga ako ng Voltes V.

Michael V. is, himself, a fan of video games and pop culture—perhaps the reason why he decided to give his take on the recent controversy.

GMA-7 is yet to announce the release date of Voltes V: Legacy. However, it has already revealed the main cast of the show: young actor Miguel Tanfelix will play Steve Armstrong (Ken'ichi Gō); Ysabel Ortega, daughter of actor and Senator Lito Lapid, plays Jamie Robinson (Megumi Oka); StarStruck season 7 contestant Radson Flores plays Mark Gordon; GMA singer-actor Matt Lozano has been cast to play Robert "Big Bert" Armstrong, and Kapuso child star Raphael Landicho will play the youngest Armstrong brother "Little Jon."

According to GMA Entertainment, all materials for the live-action adaptation of Voltes V are “studied and approved” by Toei Company, Ltd, the studio behind the popular anime.
