Kim Chiu brings back 'Bawal Lumabas' meme amid COVID-19 surge
Amid the surge of positive COVID-19 cases in the country, Kim Chiu has brought back her ‘Bawal Lumabas’ meme to remind fans to stay safe at home.
In an Instagram post on Jan. 7, Chiu shared that she has friends who had tested positive for the highly-transmissible COVID-19 Omicron variant before referencing her famous meme.
“Keep safe everyone #BawalLumabas bahay muna, pahinga from all the parties and vacation that we had,” the actress wrote.
She also advised her 11 million followers to “reflect, reset, eat healthy, exercise, drink your vitamins and plan for the rest of the days of 2022.” “If you have any of the symptoms please isolate na kaagad para di mahawa yung mga kasama nyo sa bahay,” she added.
“More than anything we really have to be responsible.”
In May of 2020, Chiu tickled the Internet’s funny bone after her tangent speech comparing classroom rules to pandemic lockdown protocols.
Shortly after the online memes and jokes, the artist rode the wave by releasing a hit single of the same name. She then shared the proceeds to provide food packages for 1,500 families.
In December of the same year, the viral meme also became an iWantTV series.
“Nag-flashback sa akin lahat simula nag-start ang ‘Bawal Lumabas.’ One mistake won’t define you as a person,” Kim said upon watching the series trailer.
“When you make a mistake, don’t look back at it long... ‘Mistakes’ are lessons of wisdom. The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power.”
