Amazon shares first look at George Clooney’s ‘The Tender Bar,’ starring Ben Affleck and Tye Sheridan
The official Twitter account of Amazon Prime Video gave a first look at the award-winning actor and director George Clooney’s coming-of-age drama film The Tender Bar, starring Batman vs. Superman actor Ben Affleck and X-Men’s Tye Sheridan.

The Tender Bar is an adaptation of American novelist and Pulitzer Prize-winner J.R. Moehringer’s 2005 memoir of the same title. It follows the story of J.R. (played by Sheridan), a young boy who grows up seeking a father figure among the patrons at his uncle Charlie’s (played by Affleck) bar.
His mother (American Horror Story star Lily Rabe) struggles to provide her son with opportunities denied to her and to leave the rundown home of her father (Back to the Future actor Christopher Lloyd). J.R. begins to pursue his romantic and professional dreams in the movie.
Aside from Affleck and Sheridan, the cast includes Max Casella, Sondra James, Max Martini, Michael Braun, Matthew Delamater, Rhenzy Feliz, Ivan Leung, Briana Middleton, and Daniel Ranieri.
The film is produced by Clooney and Grant Heslov through their Smokehouse Pictures banner.
On July 24, 2020, Variety first reported that Clooney had a conversation with Amazon Studios to direct and produce the coming-of-age story. Academy Award-winning screenwriter William Monahan wrote the script.
On Dec. 9, 2020, Affleck was considered to star in The Tender Bar, as per Variety. Affleck and Clooney worked together as producers of the 2012 American drama-thriller Argo, which Affleck also directed and starred in. Argo won Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Film Editing at the 85th Academy Awards.
The Tender Bar will arrive in theaters on Dec. 17 and on Amazon Prime Video on Jan. 7, 2022.
