Tom Holland to star in West End production of Romeo and Juliet
Tom Holland is set to make his acting return as he announced that he'll be starring in a West End production of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
The Spider-Man actor will be playing the role of doomed lover Romeo in the upcoming adaptation, which will be directed by the Tony-nominated Jamie Lloyd.
Tom shared the poster for the upcoming show on Instagram and a link to the official website for the stage show.
"Tom Holland is Romeo in Jamie Lloyd's pulsating new vision of Shakespeare's immortal tale of wordsmiths, rhymers, lovers and fighters," the website read.
Tickets for the show will be on sale beginning Feb. 13 and it will run for 12 weeks beginning May 2024.
There's no word yet about who will star as star-crossed lover Juliet as well as the rest of the cast.
The William Shakespeare tragedy Romeo and Juliet follows the story of two youths from feuding families who fall in love. Due to their clans' conflict, Romeo and Juliet end up killing themselves as they cannot bear to be apart.
Returning to acting
In June 2023, Tom announced his hiatus from acting after he finished filming the Apple TV+ crime thriller The Crowded Room.
"I'm no stranger to hard work. I've lived by the idea that hard work is good work. Then again, the show did break me," he said in an interview with Extra.
The dark TV series saw the Uncharted star playing Danny Sullivan, a man arrested for a shooting incident in Rockefeller Center in 1979. While filming, Tom explored emotions he had never experienced before while also serving as the series' producer.
He shared that he needed to take a break while shooting and disappeared to Mexico for a week.
Aside from the upcoming Romeo and Juliet, Tom has previously dabbled in theater, performing in Billy Elliot the Musical in West End from 2008 to 2010.
The Spider-Man actor was also reported to be playing Fred Astaire, the man widely known as the greatest dancer in film history, in an upcoming biopic in 2021 but the project was put on pause due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, he said.
