Liza Soberano reveals 'Hello, Love, Goodbye' was originally meant for her and Enrique Gil
Liza Soberano revealed that the hit 2019 romantic drama Hello, Love, Goodbye, starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards, was supposedly meant for her and on- and off-screen partner Enrique Gil.
Soberano made the revelation during her guest appearance in the ninth episode of Bea Alonzo's #ByBea Lie Detector vlog uploaded on March 5.
Alonzo asked Soberano, "Do you think your career opportunities were limited because nakahon ka sa love team?" to which the latter responded with a quick "Yes."
Soberano explained that she didn't see a problem in being in a love team with Gil as "LizQuen" at first, until a pitch to do Hello, Love, Goodbye came.
Set in Hong Kong, the movie follows struggling domestic helper Joy Fabregas, who becomes friends with bartender Ethan Del Rosario, who's fulfilling his dreams as an incoming permanent resident.
Bernardo is the other half of KathNiel with Daniel Padilla; Richards was the other half of AlDub with Maine Mendoza at the time. Moreover, Bernardo and Richards are from rival networks ABS-CBN and GMA.
"I wanted to do that movie so bad," Soberano said of Hello, Love, Goodbye, "but they were like, 'There's another project lined up for the both of you.'"
While they were filming episodes for drama fantasy series Bagani, Soberano said she learned that was then offered to Bernardo and Gil.
"That scared the sh*t out of me," she said. "Why did they do that? I asked them to save the project for me and Quen," adding that producers told them the script was still under development even as Soberano reminded them to "hold it" for Gil and her.
"I was scared na... wala na ang LizQuen. For me, I didn't wanna do it to the fans, but also Quen was my comfort zone," she said.
Richards ended up as Bernardo's partner in the film.
Looking back, she said she realized she hasn't done much in her showbiz career, noting everybody seems to take for granted her talent or acting capabilities because she's only seen in a love team.
The LizQuen loveteam debuted in the teleserye Forevermore in 2014. Soberano and Gil are celebrating their ninth anniversary this year, though they only went public with their relationship in 2019.
