SKY Fiber warns customers of ‘slow connection’ during five-day maintenance activities

Subscribers of SKY Fiber may experience slow connection starting tomorrow due to the emergency maintenance activities that will be conducted by the the Asia-America Gateway on its subsea international cable systems.

In an advisory released on Thursday, SKY Fiber said that emergency maintenance activities will begin at 8 a.m. on September 25 until 5 a.m. on September 30.

“This will result in slow connection affecting social media, web browser and video streaming sites such as Facebook, Google and Netflix,” it said.

However, SKY Fiber said that they are working with their technology partners to minimize the effects of the activity on their subscribers.

Telecommunications and digital services provider PLDT earlier posted the same advisory but assured its customers that measures have been put in place to minimize its effect. In a separate advisory, the telco giant vowed of “continued internet connectivity all throughout" the scheduled maintenance activities.

“We have identified alternative cable systems to keep our connectivity resilient. We have also adopted measures such as traffic rerouting and local caching, ensuring that most frequent downloaded content are located in the Philippines,” it said. “Students can still do their online studies and exams, and users in homes and businesses can go about their normal internet-based activities during this time.”

PLDT clarified that the scheduled emergency maintenance activities will begin on September 26 at 9 a.m.
