Rockstar ending PS3, XBOX 360 support for GTA Online, other games

Rockstar is saying goodbye to its online support for Grand Theft Auto V, Max Payne 3, and La Noire this December for its PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.

On Rockstar’s support page, the developer stated that online service support for GTA V has two phases. First, on September 16, 2021, PS3 and Xbox 360 Shark Cash Cards will no longer be sold for GTA V online.

Finally, on December 16, 2021, GTA Online will officially be shutting down which includes its website stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club.

Furthermore, Rockstar said that cross-platform saving, from older console generations to newer ones is not possible. This means players cannot transfer their character progress, and that all website stat tracking for PS3 and Xbox 360 via the Rockstar Games Social Club will be removed.

Rockstar clarified that these changes will have no significant impact on access to, or progress within Grand Theft Auto V Story Mode.

Both L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3 online services, including website stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club, will no longer be available on September 16, 2021. However, both games' Story Mode won’t be affected.

“We’d like to thank the GTA Online community for their continued support, and look forward to seeing players continue their journey in Los Santos with us on new platforms,” Rockstar Games said in a statement.

Despite the upcoming end for one of GTA Online’s generation, another emerges. Rockstar announced last year that GTA V and GTA Online will be upgraded onto new generation consoles—PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and will be available by November this year.
