Watch the chilling new trailer for Stephen King's 'The Stand'

CBS All Access has released the full trailer for the 2020 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand which is set to premiere this December.

Based on the 1978 novel by horror master Stephen King, the series presents an apocalyptic vision of a world and the battle between good and evil following a viral pandemic that decimates humanity – a story made even more relevant today amid the coronavirus pandemic. The series managed to wrap up filming in early March before lockdown restrictions started being enforced.

The series directed by the Josh Boone stars an ensemble cast including Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abagail, Alexander Skarsgård as Randall Flagg, Greg Kinnear as Glen Bateman, James Marsden as Stu Redman, Odessa Young as Frannie Goldsmith, Jovan Adepo as Larry Underwood, Amber Heard as Nadine Cross, Owen Teague as Harold Lauder, and more.

The nearly 2 minutes 14 seconds trailer manages to take viewers minds off the ongoing virus in face of the onscreen plague of biblical proportions.

In The Stand, society breaks down after most of the world's population dies from a weaponized influenza known as Captain Trips. A supernatural evil being called Randall Flagg encourages violence and destruction among criminals, while 108-year-old Mother Abigail leads a small group of decent human beings against him.

The trailer was released at the end of a 30-minute digital NYCC panel, where cast members including Whoopi Goldberg gave a Q & A and inside look on the series.

 

Stephen King will not only write the ninth and final episode of the series adaptation, but will also provide a new coda that didn’t exist in his 1978 novel. The Stand is set to be premiere on Dec. 17 exclusively on CBS All Access, with episodes released weekly.
