During his keynote at Microsoft’s Build 2021 event, CEO Satya Nadella revealed that the company plans to unveil the next generation of Windows very soon.

“Soon we will share one of the most significant updates to Windows of the past decade to unlock greater economic opportunity for developers and creators," shared Nadella. "I’ve been self-hosting it over the past several months, and I’m incredibly excited about the next generation of Windows.”

"Our promise to you is this: we will create more opportunity for every Windows developer today and welcome every creator who is looking for the most innovative, new, open platform to build and distribute and monetize applications. We look forward to sharing more very soon," the Microsoft executive remarked.

His use of the term "next generation" instead of "Windows 10" suggests that we might be getting the next installment of the operating system. The Verge says that Microsoft has been working on a new app store wherein developers and creators get more flexibility when distributing their software. The upgrade will also bring major UI changes to refresh the operating system.

Windows 10 was originally released in 2015, making the OS six years old now.

Nadella hasn't specified when the "soon" of it all is, but we're excited to see what the future of Windows has in store.
