Will there be a season two of ‘Trese’? Director says ‘multiple seasons’ possible if strong ratings continue

The action-fantasy animated series Trese is still one of the most streamed shows on Netflix Philippines, more than a week after it premiered. With its popularity and online buzz, it’s only natural for fans of the series to ask if there will be a second season of Trese.

Trese executive producer and director addressed this question in an interview with CNN Philippines’ The Executive on Friday, June 18.

When asked if he would like to direct a second two of Trese if it does gets produced, Oliva said: “Of course, it’s one of those things where I’d jump at the chance.”

He added that new season of the show is “just a matter of if the ratings continue. And that in other countries as well as the Philippines, it’s really strong. Netflix told me that it's reliant on the Philippine market. The support the Philippines has given us is overwhelming."

Oliva added, “I guarantee you if the ratings continue, I don't see why we would not get multiple seasons after this.”

At the end of the day, it’s all about the audience, said executive producer and Trese screenwriter Tanya Yuzon. “Ratings is just a reflection of how well you connected with the audience. So if they don’t want to see it, then do they want to show us?”

Trese is the first animated series produced by Netflix based on a piece of Philippine media; the show is based on a comic book created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo.

Yuzon said the popularity of Trese on the streaming platform can serve as a stepping stone for other Filipino creators to tell their stories. ”We have a very talented pool of creators, both on the craft side and the storyteller side,” she said.

Yuzon also said that Trese is “our contribution to lifting up all the Filipino stories that deserve that global platform.”
