'Demon Days: X-Men' reimagines Marvel Universe in revolutionary way

Get ready to experience the Marvel Universe in a new light in Demon Days: X-Men from one of Marvel's Stormbreakers, Peach Momoko.

Marvel has shared a first look of the five-part prestige series with a trailer featuring a samurai-wielding warrior in a mysterious world of demons, monsters, mutants, and magic.

The trailer teasing the comic book features stunning traditional Japanese-inspired artwork and never-before-seen illustrations by Momoko, one of the industry’s most in-demand artists. Momoko is set to introduce readers to her "revolutionary take" on the Marvel Universe this coming March.

Demon Days: X-Men #1 kicks off the five-part story that reimagines well-known characters such as Wolverine, Psylocke, Venom, and more in Momoko’s signature style. As reported by Games Radar, each issue of the series will be released once every three months and will feature some of the most popular Marvel heroes, setting the stage for an all-new saga.

"The Demon Days Saga will kick off when a wandering swordswoman with a psychic blade arrives at a village that's being targeted by demons," reads Marvel's description of the series, seemingly describing versions of Psylocke and Venom who are seen on the cover. "One demon is black and white with a terrifying red tongue and another may be the strongest demon there is!"

Momoko, an illustrator from Japan and cover artist for Marvel, Boom! and IDW, has already taken the comic world by storm with her mega-popular variant covers.

In an interview with Marvel.com, Momoko said she drew inspiration from the Japanese folktales, horror stories, and classic samurai tales that she grew up with for the prestige quarterly series.

"The entire series takes place in Japan. I will be introducing numerous Marvel characters in a brand-new format. So, I would like everyone to forget about what they are supposed to be in the real Marvel universe. My characters aren’t Super Heroes. Some are samurai, some are oni and other yōkai, some are shamans, some are yojimbos… and many others. I have kept many of their special power, but also tweaked a lot to give it a natural yōkai story power. I pushed a lot of boundaries with all the characters. I hope everyone enjoys the different versions that I created. But I kept enough that I think everyone can still know who each are. "

The elite artist will make her Marvel Comics writing and interior art debut on March 3rd with Demon Days: X-Men #1. A bonus prelude story set in the world of the Demon Days saga in King in Black #4 is set to go on sale on February 17th.

Demon Days: X-Men #1 is due out on March 3, 2021, with four subsequent parts scheduled to arrive quarterly after.
