Marvel’s ‘WandaVision’ surpasses ‘Bridgerton’ in US audience streams

Step aside, Lady Bridgerton.

Gone are the days of royal parties and lavish romances, as more viewers are getting hexed by the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) debut series: WandaVision. According to a report by variety.com’s Variety Intelligence Platform, the Disney+ series took the mantle as the most-streamed show in the US in January, overtaking Netflix’s Bridgerton

The Shondaland-helmed show was released on Christmas Day and quickly became Netflix’s “biggest show ever” in over 82 million US households in its first 28 days—but it was dethroned by WandaVision's audience-size figure of 8,127 compared to Bridgerton's 6,806.

WandaVision's win is even more impressive considering the show only premiered on Jan. 15 and has been releasing single episodes every Friday instead of the one-time drop.

ICYDK, WandaVision follows Avengers Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) after the events of Avengers: Endgame, as they’re mysteriously thrown into the town of Westview, New Jersey.

Aside from portraying the two Avengers as a typical suburban couple, each episode pays homage to progressive decades of television such as The Dick Van Dyke Show (1960s), Malcolm in the Middle and Modern Family (2000s to 2020), and more.

Serving as an introduction to Phase 4 of the MCU films, the series has since spawned numerous fan theories (Mephisto reference, anyone?) and callbacks on the future of the franchise.

WandaVision’s 8th episode is currently streaming on Disney+. It will air its season finale on Friday, March 5.
