Who said an egg can't be relatable?

Netflix has announced that they will be releasing a series on the famous Sanrio "lazy egg", Gudetama.

Introduced in 2013, the egg yolk-shaped character has become a staple figure in the Sanrio universe with his signature lazy demeanor and one-line zingers such as "meh" and "zzz", though he's normally an egg of few words.

The name "Gudetama" also literally translates to "lazy egg" as the first is a play on words of the Japanese term gudegude which means someone lazy. Tama, meanwhile, is from the Japanese word for egg which is tamago.

In the teaser video for the series, Netflix showcased the animated egg slowly coming out of its shell. As his form starts to develop, he says his first words: "What a drag."

While the clip leaves much to the imagination, the show is reportedly a mix of CG and live-action elements that will see the lazy egg leave the comforts of the cold refrigerator.

"A listless egg who has given up on life, knowing that all that awaits it is someone’s plate, is forced out of the fridge by the enthusiastic, overbearing chick Shakipiyo. Together, the odd couple set out on a quest to find their mother," the show synopsis reads.

Gudetama: An Eggcelent Adventure is slated for a late 2022 release exclusively on Netflix.
