Baby Groot's own animated series is set to drop in August

Expect to witness more Baby Groot cuteness in the coming months as the mischievous little tree-like creature is set to star in his own animated series soon.

Eight years after Baby Groot appeared on the big screen through Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the beloved character is back to charm the hearts of his fans in his own show titled—surprise, surprise—I Am Groot.

In a tweet on June 6, Marvel Studios revealed that the show is slated for release on August 10, Pacific time, via Disney+.

The film and TV producer also shared the show’s poster where Baby Groot is seen chilling out to some music. His head is tilted back on Star-Lord’s (played by Christ Pratt) iconic Sony TPS-L2 Walkman.

You’d also notice two small four-eyed penguin-like creatures peeking from the tree-shaped freshener beside Baby Groot.

Marvel hasn’t revealed much details about the show except that it will follow “Baby Groot’s glory days growing up, and getting into trouble among the stars.”

Vin Diesel will return to voice the character as he did for the teen and old Groot in the first two Guardians films, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

In a separate tweet on June 6, I Am Groot’s producer and Guardians director James Gunn said that the show won’t play a part in the Guardians of the Galaxy saga.

“They are animated shorts so not necessarily part of the Guardians saga,” Gunn said. “They’re canon to themselves, I think,” he added.

A year before Marvel’s recent announcement, the studio and Walt Disney Company shared a glimpse of their free-roaming robotic Baby Groot that they developed for use in Disney theme parks around the globe.
