'Aquaman' star Jason Momoa shaves off signature long locks to spread awareness about single use plastics
Jason Momoa cares so much about the environment that he'll shave his luscious long locks for it.
The actor sported long hair for many of his iconic roles in films including Game of Thrones, Aquaman, Dune, Conan the Barbarian, and See, among others.
He finally said goodbye to his signature locks on Sept. 6 when he shaved them all off to raise awareness about how single use plastics are harming the environment.
The Aquaman actor showed his cut-off braids in a video posted on Instagram. "Shaving off the hair... Oh man, I've never even felt the wind right there."
"I'm tired of these plastic bottles," he said. "We got to stop. Plastic forks. All that sh*t. It just goes into our land, into our ocean."
In June, Momoa was named the United Nations Environment Program Advocate for Life Below Water. He also urged the public to use aluminum bottles or canteens instead.
"Here's to new beginnings," Momoa captioned. "Be better at protecting our land and oceans. We need to cut single use plastics out of our lives and and out of our seas."
Momoa's move caught the attention of fellow Hollywood actors, including Marisa Tomei and Dave Bautista, as well as environmental organizations.
