'Sinabawang hotdog supremacy': Andrea Brillantes goes viral for tasting hotdog 'frying oil' in Adie's 'Tahanan' music video

Filipino actress Andrea Brillantes tickled the funny bone of netizens after starring in a music video where she's tasting what appears to be frying oil while cooking chopped hotdogs. She later clarified that it was, apparently, boiling water, as the music video director explained it was a deliberate move.

Facebook page "Meme in Black" was among those that first shared the quirky moment in emerging OPM singer Adie's music video for Tahanan, which premiered on April 20. The page's post has over 40,000 reactions (mostly "Haha" reactions), 31,000 shares, and 2,600 comments.

Many netizens expressed their amusement in the comments.

"masarap po ba ung mantika HAHAHHAHHA," one user wrote.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HUY GAGI TAWANG TAWA AKO BLYTHEEEEEEE PANIMULA PA LANG LUTANG KA NA," another user wrote. "PERO ANG GANDA MO PA DIN GRABE."

"ganto pala mangyayari pag nag bf ng basketball player," one more user said, referring to Ricci Rivero of the UP Fighting Maroons who recently became her boyfriend.

Brillantes soon after, made reference to the ongoing conversation, nonchalantly referencing it in a comment on her page as she promoted the music video.

"sinabawang hotdog supremacy," she wrote in her own post's comments.

She then set the record straight: It's not frying oil but actually just one's average H2O.

Kris Cazin, the music video's director and producer, wrote in a separate Facebook post that the whole thing was his "intention," as he attached a screenshot of his comment on the music video, explaining the rationale behind it.

"Okay so nag viral tayo dahil sa sinabawang hotdog. It actually worked!" Cazin said.

Cazin said before taking the scene, they originally poured water on the pan to boil for the sake of producing steam as a practical effect of sorts.

"Ayoko na paglutuin si Blythe for safety reasons," he noted. "Tapos nagulat na lang sila nagchop ako ng hotdog tapos nilagay ko sa pan."

Cazin even disclosed that Brillantes went off-script by saying "Sarap" instead of "Okay naman," a nod to the iconic catchphrase of vlogger chef Ninong Ry, whom Cazin said he admires.

"I just thought it looks dumb so I went for it," he added, followed by a tears of joy emoji. "If you think it's funny and stupid, that's the point!"

"Don't expect all women, jowa, asawa, etc na marunong magluto," he said, noting that it isn't a gender role. "Ipagluluto ka parin niya kahit di siya marunong magluto. Show mo parin ang pagtingin mo sakanya, mahal mo parin siya despite mukha siyang ewan na umiinom ng sabaw ng hotdog."

Released in 2021, Adie said Tahanan is a song about lovers who finally found their comfort places with each other. It has over 28 million streams on Spotify.

The music video, meanwhile, has over 500,000 views and is No. 3 on YouTube's trending list, as of this writing.

Adie first rose to fame for his viral YouTube videos in which he belts out popular songs. He was signed by O/C Records in 2020. Adie received four nominations in 2021 from local award-giving bodies: Breakthrough Artist and Favorite Male Artist in the 34th Awit Awards; Wish Breakthrough Artist of the Year; and Wishclusive Contemporary Folk Performance of the Year for Paraluman in the 7th Wish Music Awards.
