A year after their widely televised defamation trial, it looks like Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are ready to move on with their lives.

To recap, Depp emerged victorious in his court battle with his ex-wife, who he sued for publishing an op-ed article that seemed to paint him as an abuser during their marriage, although no name was mentioned.

After a six-week feud in the courthouse, a US jury found both of them liable for defamation, but sided more strongly with the Pirates of the Caribbean star and awarded him $15 million (P800 million) in damages while Heard got a significantly lower amount of $2 million (P100 million).

When the verdict was first issued, Heard reacted with clear disappointment, saying that it was a "setback" for women.

"I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband," she said in a statement.

While the 36-year-old actress was indeed let down by the result of the trial, a source told PEOPLE that the actress is putting her loss behind her and has a renewed sense of energy to move forward with her life.

"She has been living in Spain, where she gets more privacy. The trial was beyond stressful for her and she just wanted to start fresh out of the country," the source told the outlet.

In addition, the insider shared that she is now "excited about working and filming again."

"This is all behind her now, though. She has new energy and is focused on things that she loves," the source said.

Meanwhile, Depp is also putting his career at the center of his attention, specifically his upcoming French biographical film Jeanne du Barry, where he plays as King Louie XV and stars with French actors such as Maïwenn and Pierre Richard. This was after he went on a tour with the late guitarist Jeff Beck, who died in January at age 78.

"As soon as his tour ended, he jumped into filming Jeanne Du Barry. Filming was challenging, but Johnny is excited about the comeback He thinks it's perfect that this historical drama will open at Cannes," a source told PEOPLE.

With regards to whether Depp is entertaining the idea of finding a new flame to light his heart, the source said that the actor "has been dating, but doesn't have a girlfriend."

Depp and Heard first started dating in 2012, a few years after meeting on the set of The Rum Diary in 2009. The couple exchanged vows in February 2015 but ended their marriage in 2017.
