Alex Gonzaga reveals how sister Toni stays immune from criticism: 'Matapang talaga ang ate ko as a person'

Alex Gonzaga has spoken up about the backlash thrown at sister Toni Gonzaga regarding her stand in politics and on choosing to remain 'unbothered'.

Toni drew flak last Feb. 8 for hosting the proclamation rally of Bongbong Marcos and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte held at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

In a recent vlog by Karen Davila, Alex shared that her sister has become immune to criticism over the years.

When asked by Davila if her sister’s political leanings affected them as a family, Alex began by saying “[Toni] is my mentor, and a mother."

"To be honest, in a family, iba-iba nang political stand but my dad would always say ‘your political stand is your right but mas important is family than any issue.'"

"So we support each other, we know our stand," she added.

Alex then shared that she reached out to Toni in the thick of the criticism, but her sister would only change the topic to other matters, such as her son Seve.

“Knowing my sister, I know she is a strong person and I know hindi siya dadalhin ni Lord dun kung hindi siya ready."

Alex also cited being Toni bullied as a child, and even remaining unbothered by their father's scoldings.

"During that time, I think she was so equipped and so ready for that."

"Pag pinagagalitan siya ng daddy ko, sinasabi ng daddy ko, ‘Hindi ka magre-react?’... Matapang talaga ang ate ko as a person kaya nga sabi ko siguro nga talagang she was really born for this kasi kaya niya."

Meanwhile, Toni and her husband director Paul Soriano have long been linked to Bongbong Marcos, as the former senator was a sponsor at the couple's wedding in 2015. The presidential aspirant was also interviewed by Gonzaga in September 2020 for her YouTube channel Toni Talks. They spoke about the lessons Marcos learned from his father, the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Toni also departed from her 16-year role as the main host of the reality show Pinoy Big Brother shortly after the proclamation rally.
