Kelly Clarkson opened up about what made her realize she had to "do something" about her health.

In a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the host and singer said that her pre-diabetic diagnosis pushed her to get serious about losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle.

"I was told I was pre-diabetic," she told her guest Kevin James, who complimented her and said she looked "great."

"I wasn't shocked. I was a tiny bit overweight, so yeah. But I wasn't shocked by it. But they did, they were like, 'You're pre-diabetic, you're right on the borderline.' I was like, 'But I'm not there yet,'" she recalled.

"I waited two years and then I was like, 'Okay, I'll do something about it,'" she continued.

Pre-diabetes is a "serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes," according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It puts one at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes as well as heart disease and stroke.

In early January, Kelly shared the actions she's taken to lose some weight, saying she "eats a healthy mix."

"I dropped weight because I've been listening to my doctor. A couple years, I didn't," she told PEOPLE Magazine. "And 90% of the time, I'm really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I'm a Texas girl, so I like meat. Sorry, vegetarians in the world!"

Last year, she also said that she and her children bond by walking their dogs outside.

"We go walk the dogs a few times at the park. We'll go for ice cream because my daughter will wear me down. We'll go make slime and we go to the museum. Walking in the city is quite the workout," she said.
