Miley Cyrus reflects on her life and career in her new single, "Used To Be Young," released on Friday, Aug. 25.

The song, accompanied by an emotional music video, features the superstar acknowledging the changes in her once extravagant lifestyle. Miley opened up about this in an Instagram post shared at the release of her new song.

The 30-year-old singer-actress wrote, "This song is about honoring who we've been, loving who we are & celebrating who we will become. I feel proud when reflecting on my past and joyful when thinking about the future."

Miley, who started her career as a child actress, became a pop culture icon at such a young. Fans witnessed how the popular Disney actress transitioned into a grown, mature woman over time.

She continued, "I am grateful to my loyal fans who make my dreams a reality daily. I am sincerely thankful for the stability of your steadfast support. This song is for you."

On August 22, Miley shared the lyrics of her then-upcoming song, revealing she wrote it two years ago when she felt “misunderstood.”

“I have spent the last 18 months painting a sonic picture of my perspective to share with you. The time has arrived to release a song that I could perfect forever," she wrote in an Instagram post.

She added, "The fact it remains unfinished is a part of its beauty. That is my life at this moment ….. unfinished yet complete."

Used To Be Young is part of Miley's album Endless Summer Vacation and her music performance series titled Endless Summer Vacation: Continued (Backyard Sessions). It features Miley in a "uniquely intimate" interview recounting the past 30 years of her life.

The album was meanwhile released in March, debuting at the third spot on the Billboard 200. Its lead single, Flowers, spent eight weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 chart and amassed over 1 billion streams on Spotify.
