Actress Angelica Panganiban urges voters to choose candidates wisely in the 2022 elections.

The video, first posted on the youth group Young Public Servants’ Facebook page, captured the attention of netizens and sparked conversations about the looming elections. Panganiban’s name trended several hours after the video was posted online.

Panganiban is known for being open and candid not just about her love life but also on certain political issues. In the almost two-minute video, the 35-year-old actress mirrors her experience on failed romantic relationships with how some politicians act when they seek a position in government.

“Naloko ka na ba ng pagmamahal sa maling tao? Yung akala mo gold medalist ka na tapos fake news pala? Don’t me, alam ko ‘yan,” she said, seemingly pertaining to her past relationships.

“Ilang beses akong iniwan sa ere. Ilang beses din akong nasaktan. Lagpak, beh. Dapang-dapa. Ninakawan ako ng pag-asa at pangarap,” she added.

“Minahal ko eh. Pinagtanggol ko pa nga sa mga friends ko pero wala, nganga. Mambubudol pala.

“Ang sakit umasa ha. Nakakapagod din maging tanga. Sa ganda kong to, hindi ko deserve. Hindi mo rin deserve. it’s not worth it!” said Panganiban.

With her love life “hugot,” Panganiban said she has learned her lesson and hopes the viewers would, too. “Iwasan na natin ang mga manloloko,” she said.

Panganiban then shifted her message directly to the viewers to be discerning in the upcoming elections—from scrutinizing the candidates’ credentials (“high school hanggang college”) to their “character references.”

Without dropping candidates’ names, she said in her parting words: “Wag magpapabudol at ‘wag sa magnanakaw.”

Panganiban’s video stirred conversations online, with people from different political spectrum weighing in.

Celebrities like TV host Bianca Gonzales, actress Kim Chiu, actor Bart Guingona and director Antoinette Jadaone, among others, supported and lauded Panganiban.

Meanwhile, new media advocacy leader and blogger Jane Uymatiao also tweeted, “Very nice video from Angelica Panganiban. No names. Just a reminder to choose very well this coming May. The next 6 years, progressive or regressive, will depend on our choice.”
