Chantal Videla will finally debut as a K-pop idol.

Filipina-Argentinian actress Chantal Videla has been confirmed to debut as a member of MLD Entertainment’s new girl group LAPILLUS in June 2022. MLD Entertainment CEO Lee Hyung-jin revealed in an interview with Korean media outlet Star News that LAPILLUS will be marketed as a “global girl group.”

Since we’re less than two months away before Chantal’s official debut, here are more details we’ve picked up so far.

LAPILLUS will be a ‘global girl group’

Hyung-jin said LAPILLUS is a “global girl group” with members who can speak Korean, English, Spanish, Tagalog, Chinese, and Japanese.

As of this writing, Chantal and Girls Planet 999 contestant Nonaka Shana are “confirmed” to be part of the group’s lineup.

Chantal and Shana have been appearing as a “foreign trainee duo” in the web series NADOL, showing their potential to be variety stars.

While the number of LAPILLUS members is still unknown, Hyung-jin said they will be “sequentially from the third week of May.”

Shana made a name for herself in Girls Planet 999

Of course, Chantal is not the only member that deserves attention. Shana is also an ace in the making, as shown in her journey in the Mnet reality TV competition show.

The reality show, which was composed of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese trainees, was an opportunity for Shana to show her skills in singing, dancing, and performing. One of her notable moments was being selected as a vocalist for the U + Me = LOVE team.

While the Japanese trainee didn’t make it to Kep1er (or the show’s project girl group), she caught the attention of fans since she was ranked 16 in the finale. Meanwhile, she also ranked number four among the show’s Japanese contestants.

MLD Entertainment is home to Momoland and T1419

Formerly known as Duble Kick Company, MLD Entertainment is the music label behind K-pop groups like Momoland and T1419. Another MLD act that recently debuted from the company is the duo JT&MARCUS.

In case you’re living under a rock, Momoland is a six-member girl group that’s best known for their hit songs Bboom Bboom and Bam. Originally a nine-member group, the current lineup is composed of members Hyebin, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy. The group’s recent track Yummy Yummy Love was released in January 2022.

Notable members Yeonwoo and Taeha left the group in November 2019, while Daisy left in May 2020.

Meanwhile, the South Korean-Japanese boy group T1419 is composed of nine members, namely, Noa, Sian, Kevin, Gunwoo, Leo, On, Zero, Kairi, and Kio. One of their recent Korean songs, Edelweiss, was released in March 2022.
