Here's why Liza Soberano wants to pursue a career in Hollywood
More than working alongside America's biggest actors and actresses, Liza Soberano dreams of entering Hollywood for a good reason — to be an inspiration to younger Filipinas.
Soberano shed light on her long-held dream during her first US on-stage interview at the Identity Fest held at the GRAMMY Museum last May 28. A video of the interview was shared by Myx Global on its YouTube channel shortly afterward.
It shows the Filipino-American actress looking thrilled and polished in her black Balmain monogram co-ord, as the event's hosts Sherry Cola and Dumbfounded began interviewing her.
"First of all, thank you for having me. It feels surreal because it's my first time speaking on stage here in America," the Fil-Am actress beamed. "It has always been a dream of mine to be able to work out here so I'm really happy, I'm really excited, and it's an honor."
Asked for her advice to young women who would like to succeed as an artist just like her, Soberano said they shouldn't be afraid to take the leap.
“I would say to just go for it. A lot of the times it can be scary to kind of go outside your comfort zone and I, myself, am experiencing that now like it would be so much easier for me to just stay back at home and do the same thing that I’ve always been doing,” the ABS-CBN star said.
Now that she's in the US and trying to make a foray into Hollywood, Soberano hopes that her journey would soon serve as an inspiration for the younger generation.
She elaborated, “My personal goal is to be able to bridge the gap between the Philippines and America and help the younger generation, little girls, who also dream of coming out here and make a career for themselves and I wanna make it easier for them when they do that in the future and if it that means me taking the first leap, then so be it.”
The actress-entrepreneur's dream of joining the world's biggest film industry was first revealed by her former talent manager, Ogie Diaz, in a YouTube vlog last May 27.
In the video, Diaz mentioned that the 24-year-old star is no longer renewing their contract and, instead, moving into James Reid's talent agency as she wanted to start a career in Hollywood.
Diaz explained, "Nag-decide si Liza na 'di na mag-renew through a long Viber message na magalang naman 'yung bata in fairness... Kasama don sa mensahe niya sa akin ay gusto niya mag-try sa Hollywood and siyempre hindi naman ako 'yung tipong alam ko rin hanggang Hollywood. Kumbaga, hanggang dito lang 'yung kaalaman ko bilang manager," he said.
Soberano, Reid, and his colleagues have been in the US to attend events for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) month, which is usually celebrated during May.
