'Everything Everywhere All at Once' co-director reveals he wore a suit from a thrift store for the Oscars

The Academy Awards is considered by many to be the biggest night for Hollywood celebrities. Thus, it is only natural that they would want to glam up their appearance by wearing expensive outfits from all sorts of well-known luxury fashion houses, but not for one of the directors of Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Daniel Scheinert, who helmed the winner of Best Picture together with Daniel Kwan, wore a red button-down shirt under his black suit and tie. However, it turns out that the tuxedo he wore for the prestigious event didn't come from any high fashion brand.

Rather, it came from an unclaimed plane suitcase that was later resold by a local thrift store.

According to AL.com, Scheinert got his outfit from a store in Alabama called Unclaimed Baggage, which purchases left-behind bags from airlines and then sells, recycles, and donates its contents.

His mother, Becky, told the news outlet that she and her son had purchased the tux years ago when he began to rise to prominence as a filmmaker and needed a tux for certain occasions.

Daniel planned to wear the outfit as he graced the Oscars, much to the joy of Unclaimed Baggage’s vice president of retail and company culture Jennifer Kritner, who said that what he did was "incredible."

"We’re so honored that we could be included in his big moment," Kritner said in a report by Washington Post. "We’re so proud of Daniel and his Alabama roots and just so encouraged to see one of our very own succeed in such an incredible way."

Scheinert and his co-director Kwan took home the trophy for Best Director at the 95th Academy Awards that was held on March 13 (Philippine time). Their film meanwhile won six other awards: Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and both the Best Supporting Actor and Actress trophies.
