South Korean singer IU's agency has shared an update about their ongoing legal action taken against a netizen who posted malicious comments against the artist.

EDAM Entertainment posted an official statement to their social media page, saying they collected evidence of perpetrators "who repeatedly posted malicious posts including obvious false facts, defamation, and personal attacks against IU."

IU, whose real name is Lee Ji-eun was the subject of malicious comments in 2020, and the agency has taken action against these.

In their Dec. 13 update, the company said a perpetrator "admitted to all criminal charges" through an investigation and was slapped with a fine of 3 million won (P128,000) for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection and insult.

The update also served as a warning to other online users who continue to say false, defaming statements about the actress.

"If the same crime occurs again after this ruling, we will continue to take the strongest legal actions under a zero-tolerance policy," EDAM said in a statement.

"In addition to this, regardless of the timing, we plan to take strict measures to ensure strong legal punishment for those who abuse their anonymity and commit malicious acts against our artists on platforms such as community bulletin boards. We clearly state that there will be no settlement or leniency in this process," it added.

The company did not disclose its process for investigating malicious posts but said that reports and data from fans have helped the cause.
