Apart from getting another win as an artist, Kathryn Bernardo made sure to use her influence for good as she paid tribute to health workers and raised awareness about Alzheimer’s disease in her acceptance speech at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2023.

The actress personally received her Outstanding Asian Star award for her portrayal of “Ali” in Filipino TV series 2 Good 2 Be True during the awarding ceremony held on Thursday, Sept. 21 in Seoul, South Korea.

“Hi, good evening everybody. My name is Kathryn Bernardo and I’m Filipina,” she began her speech.

“When I initially found out about the nomination and recognition for my craft by such an esteemed award-giving body, that in itself is already a win for me,” she continued. She shared how she still feels “overwhelmed” and the recognition “still feels surreal.”

She went on to express her gratitude to the team behind 2 Good 2 Be True, including Director May Cruz Alviar, and her co-stars, Daniel Padilla and Ronaldo Valdez.

“I fell in love with this project because of its unique storyline,” she continued, sharing that they aimed to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease.

“It’s always been more than just sharing about a love story to our audience, but also spreading awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and educating people about those who struggle with it and how we can offer them the best support they need,” she said.

“This project made me appreciate our nurses and healthcare workers, so it was really more than just another TV show for me,” she added.

Concluding her speech, the 27-year-old star took pride in the Filipino talent.

“I hope we continue to produce world-class projects not just for Filipinos, but for the whole world to see. I am so proud and humbled to be on the stage representing Filipino talent,” she said. “Maraming, maraming salamat po.”

She is the sixth Filipino celebrity to win the award. In 2022, Belle Mariano made history by being the first Filipina to win the earn the same recognition.

Kathryn is best known for her roles in movies and TV series, The Hows of Us, Hello Love Goodbye, and Pangako Sa’yo, among others.
