‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’ bags the Hallyu Promotion Excellence Award

Like how Hong Banjang met Yoon Hye-jin’s standards, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha has thrived in the broadcasting industry.  

The South Korean television series Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha received the Korean Wave or Hallyu Excellence Award on Monday, June 20, granted by the Korea Communications Commission Broadcasting Award at the Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul. 

According to Korean media outlet ET News, Korea Communications Commission Broadcasting Awards celebrated its 14th anniversary by selecting the excellent programs produced during the year that contributed to the development of the broadcasting culture.

The Excellence Award was granted to eight works including the ‘Gae Village Cha Cha Cha,’ the Production Competency Excellence Award was given to CJ ENM OnStyle and Event TV, the Contribution Award was presented to SBS Media Technology Research Center, EBS PD Jeong Hyun-suk, and Dohoam Gyeongin Broadcasting Technology Director, and the grand prize was bestowed to MBC’s ‘Red End of the Sleeve.’ 

In promotion of Korea’s national unity and its social and cultural diversity, Korea Communications Commission Chairman Han Sang-hyuk pointed out that the broadcasting and cutting-edge technology of the awardees stood out. 

“In the future, we will boldly improve the outdated broadcasting regulation system and expand support for nurturing creative talents, building production infrastructure, and advancing broadcasting contents overseas,” he added.  

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is about big-city dentist Yoon Hye-jin (Shin Min-a) opening up a a clinic in a seaside village in Gongjin and later on meeting a charming jack-of-all-trades Hong Du-sik (Kim Seon-ho). 

Aside from the chemistry of the two lead stars, the 16-part series also introduced a warm community of multiple characters whose stories represent the daily lives of ordinary people. Hometown-Cha-Cha-Cha become one of the highest-rated dramas in South Korea’s cable television history and most popular TV series on Netflix in 2021.
