Dingdong Dantes revealed he considered entering politics, but he never pushed it because of his “high regards for public office.”

In the April 21 episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, the TV host and actor opened up about his family and his career, including his interest in entering the political field in the past.

“Sa tingin ko po ay lahat po ito nag-uugat sa pagmamahal natin sa Inang Bayan, and higit sa lahat pagmamahal sa kapwa. We recognize na iba-iba naman ang paraan natin ng pagpapakita nito,” he said.

“Ako, gusto ko po aminin na may panahon na I really thought na sana may [opportunity] for me to do more over and beyond my work here in the industry," he revealed.

He, however, decided not to pursue politics due to his respect for public office, citing the responsibilities that one must fulfill.

"Never umabot pa sa punto na sinabi kong, 'Sige, gagawin ko 'to.' It’s because I have high regards for public office, especially kapag sinabing public office, ibig sabihin, 'yun dapat ang topmost priority,” he explained.

Acknowledging the responsibilities that come with being a public servant, the Family Feud host realized that such won't be an easy feat, especially since he is also a father to Zia and Sixto and a husband to actress Marian Rivera, to whom he's been married since 2014.

“I recognize that it’s not that easy, it will require much of your time, energy, love, your passion, yourself. It takes much sacrifice para ma-achieve ‘yan.”

“Isang bagay ang malinaw sa akin ngayon that I have multiple roles to fulfill—literally and figuratively,” he said, "because I want to be the best father to my children, I want to be the best husband to Marian, be a good son and responsible member of this beautiful industry, while striving to be a good citizen every day."

"Lahat tayo may kanya-kanyang papel na kailangang gampanan sa lipunan para mapaganda at mapabuti," Dingdong continued.

When asked if he’s open to pursuing a political career someday, the local star simply said: “It’s not for me to say." He added that his decision will depend on the circumstances.

Aside from his years-long career in the entertainment industry, Dingdong worked for the government as a youth commissioner in 2014.
