Biggest celebrity breakups that shocked fans this 2022

Sometimes, love just doesn't work out for couples who you thought were going to be together until death does them part.

While breakups are usually messy and receive a lot of buzz from people who know about the relationship, nothing compares to the shock that comes when your favorite celebrity couples decide to call it quits.

As the year 2022 is finally coming to a close, let's look back at the biggest celebrity breakups that made fans have doubts if there's truly a "forever."

Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez

In just less than a year after they exchanged wedding vows in October 2021, Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez have signed their divorce papers, officially ending their seven year romance that started when they met on the set of the 2013 series My Husband's Lover.

Rumors about their breakup first swirled when Carla's father, Rey, revealed that Tom had a one-night stand and how his daughter told him that their relationship had been going through a rough patch at the time.

Months after their alleged split became a hot topic on social media, Carla finally broke her silence on the issue after netizens continuously pestered her about her marriage in the comments section of one of her YouTube videos.

There, she bared that she and her family were mistreated during their relationship, "I was disrespected. I was betrayed. I was lied to. I was used. I was shamed. I was made to look so stupid."

Tom later revealed that their marriage could no longer be salvaged and that they have officially divorced, to which Carla confessed some time later that she's still struggling to move on from her heartbreak.

Moira dela Torre and Jason Hernandez

Moira dela Torre and Jason Hernandez is another case of a love story shattered by infidelity.

The former couple had been friends since college and tied the knot in 2019. However, eagle-eyed fans began to stir the pot about their rumored breakup when they noticed that Moira deleted all photos of Jason on her Instagram feed, as well as removing the surname "Hernandez" on her social media accounts.

The rumors became a reality when Jason revealed “with a heavy heart” that he had been unfaithful during their marriage and announced that they are ending their three-year union.

Moira shared a week after their publicized split that she "can forgive" Jason eventually, putting her trust and faith that God can "make her a diamond again."

Janella Salvador and Markus Paterson

While Janella Salvador and Markus Paterson already ended their relationship "almost a year ago," it was only until recently that they confirmed this news.

Markus revealed it following criticisms he received from netizens because of what he said in a podcast called Boys After Dark or B.A.D.

There, he said, "Kung may lessons ako sa mga relationships ko, [it's] to never f*cking date someone in the industry. 'Wag niyong i-cut 'yan. Seryoso ako diyan. [S]a lahat ng mga nanonood na batang artista o gustong mag-artista, ‘wag kayo mag-date ng ibang babaeng artista."

Many netizens assumed that the actor was talking about Janella, with whom he has a son with, but he later clarified that what he said wasn't talking about her, revealing that their relationship had already ended a long time ago.

"Just to clear up the facts, me and Janella have been broken up for almost a year. She's happy in life, and I'm happy in life, and our only priority is Jude," he wrote in an Instagram story.

However, the ex-couple is on amicable terms. In fact, they were both present at Jude’s second birthday and baptism, as seen in some photos showing the two of them with wide smiles during the celebration.

Kylie Verzosa and Jake Cuenca

Love also eluded Kylie Verzosa and Jake Cuenca after the latter announced in a lengthy Instagram post in April his separation from the Miss International 2016 beauty queen.

"I’ll hold on to all our precious memories together with so much value. [These] past three years of my life have certainly been the best. I say this with such a heavy heart, but me and Kylie have decided to go our separate ways," Jake wrote, accompanying his message with a picture of them holding hands and a figurine resembling them.

However, they seemed to have parted ways on a good note as Jake shared that they both wanted to be able to look back on their relationship with no bitterness and regrets. He also said that he will always be sending love and positivity towards Kylie.

When asked about the next step in her love life, Kylie said that she is giving some time off from finding a new flame to light up her heart and is instead focusing on her career.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Camile Morrone

Leonardo DiCaprio also made rounds on social media after sources confirmed to PEOPLE that he has separated from 25-year-old model and actress Camila Morrone, who he had been dating for four years.

The 47-year-old actor has been known for reportedly being entering into relationships with women who are mostly under the age of 25 such as Bar Rafaeli, Blake Lively, and Nina Agdal, according to Page Six.

However, it seems that the Titanic star has found another beauty to light up his world in Gigi Hadid. Relationship speculations have begun to surround the two of them after they were photographed kissing at an after-party during the New York Fashion Week.

An insider also told E! Online that Leonardo is "interested" in Gigi, but that the model "is not interested in anything serious."

Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde

The most recent couple to have put a halt on their romance in this list is Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde. The two celebrities first met on the set of Don't Worry Darling, which is directed by Olivia and which Harry stars in as the leading man.

They first caught the media's attention when they were photographed holding hands in San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California for Styles' agent's wedding. They were also seen together at the singer's home in Los Angeles.

The pair cemented their relationship two months after Olivia split from her fiancé Jason Sudeikis. However, multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE in mid-November that they are "taking a break" from their relationship after nearly two years together, explaining that they have different priorities that are "keeping them apart."

Their split came under rather messy circumstances as they had to go through the drama surrounding their film, specifically the feud between Olivia and her Don't Worry Darling star Florence Pugh.
