Shawn Mendes postpones ‘Wonder Tour’ to prioritize mental health after hitting ‘a breaking point’

Shawn Mendes is taking a break from touring to heal.

The pop singer and songwriter announced that he’s postponing shows on his Wonder world tour due to mental health concerns. In a note posted on Instagram, he added that he’s taking a three-week break after hitting a “breaking point.”

As someone who’s been touring since 15 years old, Mendes said it’s been “difficult to be on the road away from friends and family.”

“I've been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it's always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family. After a few years off the road, I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature and unfortunately, the toll of the road and pressure has caught up to me and I’ve hit a breaking point,” Mendes wrote.

Mendes added that he’s taking time off to heal and take care of his mental health. Even so, he promised fans that he’ll keep them up to date.

“I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health, first and foremost. As soon as there are more updates I promise I will let you know love you guys,” Mendes said.

Per the singer’s tour website, shows in Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, and North Carolina have been postponed to a later date.

Mendes has always been open about his mental health struggles on social media. In April, the singer opened up about feeling “flying or drowning” in his twenties.

"The truth is even with so much success, I still find it hard to feel like I'm not failing," he previously wrote.
