'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' star Andre Braugher passes away at 61

Andre Braugher, best known for his role as Capt. Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, has died. He was 61.

The actor's representative confirmed to PEOPLE Magazine that Braugher passed away on Monday, Dec. 11 after a recent illness.

He is survived by his wife Ami Brabson, and their three kids: John Wesley Braugher, Michael Braugher, and Isaiah Braugher.

Braugher became well-loved for his iconic role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, where he appeared alongside Andy Samberg in eight seasons. He bagged two recognitions at the Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series four times for his performance on the show.

Braugher received a total of 11 Emmy nominations throughout his entertainment career.

He bagged his first Emmy in 1988 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as Frank Pembleton in Homicide: Life on the Street. He won another Emmy in 2006 for Thief, where he played the role of Nick Atwater.

He also appeared in other shows like Gideon's Crossing, and Men of a Certain Age.
