Ed Sheeran reveals being disengaged on social media as he didn't want to 'pretend' something he's not

"I just didn’t really feel like being online and pretending to be something I’m not."

This is what Ed Sheeran said as the British superstar reconnected with his Instagram followers on Jan. 31 following his short hiatus in the "last couple of years."

The award-winning singer enthralled the fans in an Instagram reel which, he shared, was recorded 50 times.

In the clip, the singer-songwriter apologized for not being "engaged" with his "social media or fanbase over the last couple of years," with most of his online content getting "a bit boring."

"I'm sorry, that's my fault," the 31-year-old singer said.

He went on to admit what he felt about being disengaged with fans online, and even revealed having undergone rough times in his personal life.

"The reason I'm making this video, just being totally honest, I've had some turbulent things happening in my personal life so I didn't really feel like being online and pretending to be something I'm not when I'm wasn't feeling like that," he said.

After opening up himself, the popstar then promised that he will be more active and engaging with fans online.

“And I know that sounds weird. But things are looking up and I’m back online," he continued.

The Perfect singer announced his decision to go quiet on November 2022. This is not the first time he had stepped out of cyberspace. In 2015, Ed took his first social media break saying, "One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it," according to The Sun

Four years later, he took another 18-month break, telling his Instagram followers that he plans to travel and write before going back to music after tying the knot with his wife, Cherry Seaborn.

Ed is known worldwide for his top-hit songs Shape of You, Photograph, and Thinking Out Loud. In 2018, he made a recent appearance in Manila for his Divide Tour concert.
